Autumn Leaves recorded in 2012 at home. It is a great tune which lends itself to harmonic scale extensions and substitutions. All jazz guitarists at some point play it, but I never grow tired of playing it or hearing others do the same. Read More ...
For a short while I worked with a drummer who was also a friend of the great jazz pianist Bill Evans. He told me that Bill would sometimes come to the house, and they would have dinner together. As on so many occasions, after the meal Bill sat at the piano and started to play a few things. My friend asked his guest about the chord voicings he was playing at the time. Bill stopped and looked up, and with a smile said, "I would love to explain these to you, but I cannot, as I would also not want to spoil your enjoyment of discovering them for yourself".
